Description

May & vom Hau, Stahlwarenfabrik und Fahrradbestandteile was established circa 1919. In its early years, the company manufactured cutlery, flatware, and components for bicycles. During the early period of the Third Reich, the firm produced early SA daggers. According to research by Fisher, production is estimated at approximately 3,000 pieces. In 1935, May & vom Hau did not receive an RZM code, which prevented the company from continuing dagger production for the NSDAP. The firm was officially registered with the Solingen Chamber of Commerce on April 16, 1937. Business records from 1939 list Karl May and Hugo vom Hau as the company’s owners. At that time, operations were conducted from Weststraße 5, Solingen-Ohligs. In 1945, the company was sold and renamed “May & vom Hau, Inhaber Ernst Terjung”, operating from Tunnelstraße 1. On November 11, 1964, the company ceased trading and was formally dissolved.
