Description

Luftwaffe Officer's Sword (Offizierschwert / Fliegerschwert) Introduced in 1934 as an Honour Sword (Ehrenschwert), established by Hermann Göring for a select group of personally chosen members of the "Fliegerschaft." Following the official proclamation of the Luftwaffe in March 1935, the sword became standard officer's equipment under the designation Offizierschwert, though it was more commonly referred to as the Fliegerschwert. Wear was mandatory for officers and senior NCOs with Service, Parade, and Walking-out dress.

Maker: E. & F. Hörster, Solingen Founded in 1850 as "Friedrich Hörster," the firm was renamed E. & F. Hörster in 1870 at the request of owners Friedrich Emil and Fritz Hörster. The company was assigned RZM code M7/36 and became one of the leading edged weapons manufacturers in Solingen, Germany's famed "City of Blades," during the Third Reich era, producing daggers for the Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, Army, as well as for the NSKK, SA, Hitler Youth, and others. Hörster had the in-house manufacturing capacity to produce complete daggers, unlike many competitors who relied on subcontracted components.
